Gynecomastia or enlarged male breasts can be corrected with a male breast reduction in which excess breast tissue is removed to create a flatter, more masculine chest. This may be performed by liposuction alone or also with excision of excess glandular tissue. Incisions are hidden in the areola, and/or breast crease.
The prodecure usually takes between one to two hours under IV sedation or general anesthesia. A compressive garment will need to be to be worn for a few weeks to aid in the healing. Patients normally return to work in about one week.
